1) Tell us about yourself?
My name is Konstantin Datz I am 27 years old. I am a UI, Icon and Visual freelance Designer since almost 8 years by now. Currently, I am studying Design the university of applied science in Potsdam, Germany.
2) When did you start your design career and where?
My design career started when I was a school student in my hometown. My father himself was a designer of the first generation in Germany. Although the design has changed a lot since he started working, he introduced me to the basics and gave me a sense of design structure and the way of looking at things.
3) Who inspires you to be a designer?
It’s not about who, but what inspires me: I am inspired by the vision that design can actually make a difference, that it can make life more aesthetic, more beautiful, but also more practical and easier. It’s the belief that beauty and practicability can be combined to attain a higher life quality.
4) How does your work day look like?
I don’t have a certain structure of working, which is absolutely fixed. Normally I start in the morning with a nice cup of coffee or two. For me, it is very important to relax during morning time so that I can focus even better afterwards.
When I work, I love to listen to music, which makes me even more focused. So that I cab work all day, but it doesn’t really feel like work. In the best days, I create a flow, where time is passing by and I don’t even recognize it. From one moment to the other, it is night time, so I have to cook, have dinner or just hang out and watch a movie. During this time, I often got the best ideas, and I need to realize them straight away.
5) What are you currently working on?
At the moment, I am working on some Exciting User Interfaces and Websites which are challenging but super interesting to work on.
6) How do you manage your time?
What is important is to focus. When you are focused, you don’t need any time management. But if I have to gain a deadline, I try to shut down all the influences that try to kill my attention. Goodbye Facebook, goodbye phone calls!
7) Where are you currently based and what’s next?
I live in Berlin, but I am thinking about moving to New York in the near future.
8) Working in the office for a company or you’re freelancer?
I am a freelancer. To be my own boss means a lot of autonomy, which I appreciate very much.
9) What are the tools you can’t live without?
My computer, music, coffee.
10) What is your latest project?
I created two Apps, which actually made the world tastier because they are about recipes of sushi and cocktails/long drinks. Over many years, I worked on the design and promoted the project in a team. It is a big success and I hope that I could enrich the kitchen of many households with this work.
